Advocate for the CARE Bill

The Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellence (CARE) in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Act will be reintroduced in Congress in 2011. The CARE Act will set minimum certification standards for non-physician technical personnel performing medical imaging and radiation therapy. Facilities and practices seeking Medicare reimbursement for the technical component of medical imaging examinations and radiation therapy treatments must attest that their personnel meet the standards before payment is made.

The CARE Act will ensure that quality information is presented for diagnosis and that medical imaging or radiation therapy also lead to more accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients while assuring them that their radiation exposure will be as low as reasonably achievable. Additionally, health care costs may be reduced resulting from more accurate imaging or radiation procedures that do not need to be repeated due to improper positioning or poor techniques.

Please contact your Congressional representative and senators and request they become an original cosponsor of the CARE bill.
